One morning I forgot my lunch at home. I did not realize it until I sat down in the cafeteria. I had no money. I did not know what to do. I felt embarrassed. My friend asked what was wrong. I told her. She said I could share her lunch. She had a big sandwich and an apple. She gave me half of everything. I was so grateful. I had discovered that friends help when you need them. I had never had to ask for help like that before. It was an experience I would not forget. I considered how kind she had been. I said I would bring extra the next day to share with her. She smiled. The opportunity to be kind had been there. She had taken it. I had learned something important. When someone needs help we can share what we have. I went home and told my mom. She said I had a good friend. I said I would try to be that kind of friend too. The forgotten lunch had taught me about generosity. I would never forget it.
