We went on a trip down the river in kayaks. I had never been in a kayak before. The water was calm at first. I learned to paddle. I discovered that it was fun. We went past trees and rocks. We saw birds. We saw a turtle on a log. Gradually the river got a little faster. I had to steer carefully. My arms were getting tired. We stopped for lunch on the shore. We ate our sandwiches. We rested. Then we got back in the kayaks. The last part of the trip was the longest. When we reached the end I was exhausted. But I had had a magnificent day. I had never had an experience like that. I had learned to work with the river. I had considered giving up when my arms hurt. But I had kept going. The opportunity to try something new had been worth it. I exclaimed to my dad that I wanted to do it again. He said we would. The river had given me a day I would never forget. I could not wait for the next adventure.
