The American Revolution (1775-1783) was a transformative conflict that resulted in the Thirteen Colonies gaining independence from British rule. Rooted in Enlightenment ideas of liberty and self-governance, the revolution was sparked by colonial resistance to British taxation without representation and the imposition of various acts, such as the Stamp Act and the Tea Act. Key figures such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin emerged as leaders, advocating for independence and forming strategic alliances, including with France.
