Transformations in geometry involve changing the position or size of a shape on a coordinate plane. One type of transformation is a reflection, which flips a shape over a line, known as the line of reflection. For example, if you have a triangle with vertices at (1, 2), (3, 2), and (2, 4), and you reflect it over the y-axis, the new vertices will be (-1, 2), (-3, 2), and (-2, 4). This means that each point on the triangle moves to a position that is the same distance from the y-axis but on the opposite side. Reflections maintain the size and shape of the original figure, meaning the triangle remains congruent after the transformation. Reflections can occur over other lines, such as the x-axis or any diagonal line, creating interesting patterns and designs.
