Last summer my family decided to climb a mountain. We woke up early. The trail was long and steep. I had never climbed so high. Gradually my legs began to feel heavy. My dad said we could take breaks. We stopped every twenty minutes. We drank water and looked at the view. The trees became smaller below us. After three hours we reached the top. I exclaimed that it was magnificent. We could see for miles. The sky was blue. The world was quiet. I had discovered that hard work leads to great rewards. We took pictures. We had a snack. Then we started down. Going down was easier but my knees felt tired. When we reached the car I was exhausted. But I was proud. I had never had an experience like that. I had learned to consider each step. The opportunity to climb had been a gift. I would never forget that day. Perhaps we would climb another mountain next year.
