Day 112 of 180Week 23 of 36, TuesdayThird quarter

Track a story for a week

๐Ÿ“– Reading๐ŸŒ Real worldโฑ๏ธ about 35 minutes

Follow one story for a week and note how the framing changed as facts emerged.

Out of the exercise book and into something that actually happens.

Today is rung 8 of 12 on this topic

Comparing how different media tell the same story

Can do: Compares an article, a video and a social post on one event and analyses what each format changes.

Why it matters

Most information they consume is not text. Applying reading skills to video and social media is where the actual risk is.

What it looks like when it's wobbly

Applies critical reading to school texts and none of it to a video feed.

โฑ๏ธ Two-minute check

"How would this story be different as a 30-second clip? What would have to be cut?"

Solid looks like: Recognises that format forces selection, and names what would go.

One Story, Three Formats

A news eventA device
  1. 1Find the same story as a written article, a video report and a social post.
  2. 2List what each includes and what only one includes.
  3. 3Ask which felt most convincing, and separate that from which was most informative.
  4. 4Identify what the video's music, images or editing added that the text couldn't.
  5. 5Write one sentence on which you'd trust most, and why.

If it's too hard

Compare two headlines about the same event.

If it's too easy

Find the original source behind all three and see what each dropped.

Say this

"Which one convinced you most? Now โ€” which one actually told you the most?"
