Driven by the desire for wealth, trade routes, and the spread of Christianity, explorers such as Christopher Columbus, Vasco da Gama, and Ferdinand Magellan set sail on perilous journeys. This era resulted in the exchange of goods, cultures, and ideas, known as the Columbian Exchange, but also led to significant consequences, including the exploitation of indigenous populations and the establishment of the transatlantic slave trade.
