The Boston Tea Party was a significant event that symbolized colonial resistance to British taxation. On December 16, 1773, a group of colonists, including members of the Sons of Liberty, disguised themselves as Mohawk Indians and boarded three British ships in Boston Harbor. They dumped 342 chests of tea into the water as a protest against the Tea Act, which granted the British East India Company a monopoly on tea sales.
