Comprehension means understanding what we read. It's the goal of reading.

The main idea is the big point. Details support the main idea.

Details give us more information. Who, what, where, when, how.

We can reread to understand better. It's okay to read again.

Good readers ask questions as they read. Questions keep us thinking.

Sequence is the order of events. First, then, next, finally.

Retelling means telling the story in our own words in order.

Authors write to entertain or teach. Thinking about why helps.

We can find answers in the text. Looking back helps.

We can reread or ask for help if we don't understand. Everyone does sometimes.

Talking about the story with someone helps us understand.

We can picture the story in our mind. Visualizing helps us understand.

We reviewed that understanding is what reading is for.

We ask what happened after we read. Retelling checks our understanding.

Characters are who the story is about. They can be people or animals.

Setting is where and when the story happens. It's important.

The problem is what the character must solve. Many stories have one.

The solution is how the problem is fixed. It usually comes near the end.

We can predict what might happen next. We use clues from the story.

We connect the story to our own life. That helps us understand.
