Solving inequalities helps us find the values of a variable that make a statement true. An inequality compares two values using symbols like '>', '<', 'โ‰ฅ', or 'โ‰ค'. For example, if we have the inequality x + 3 < 10, we want to find out what values of x make this statement true. To solve it, we subtract 3 from both sides, giving us x < 7. This means any number less than 7 will satisfy the inequality. We can check this by substituting numbers like 6 or 5 into the original inequality and seeing if the statement holds true. Remember, if you multiply or divide both sides of an inequality by a negative number, you must flip the inequality sign! This is a key rule to remember when solving inequalities.
