For example, if a shirt costs $20 and then goes on sale for $15, the percent change in price can be found by subtracting the new price from the old price: $15 - $20 = -$5. Then, divide that by the old price: -$5 ÷ $20 = -0.25. Finally, multiply by 100% to get -25%. This means the price of the shirt decreased by 25%. Understanding percent change helps you see how things like prices or populations change over time, which can be useful in everyday life and in various fields like economics and science.
