The coordinate plane is a two-dimensional space where we can plot points using pairs of numbers called coordinates. It is made up of a horizontal line called the x-axis and a vertical line called the y-axis. Each point on the plane is given a unique coordinate, written as (x, y). The first number, x, tells you how far to move left or right from the origin, which is at (0, 0). The second number, y, tells you how far to move up or down. For example, the point (3, 2) means you move three units to the right and two units up. If you wanted to plot the point (-1, -4), you would move one unit to the left and four units down. Understanding how to read and plot these points helps in graphing equations and solving geometric problems!
