Lewis and Clark were explorers who led an important journey in the early 1800s. They were chosen by President Thomas Jefferson to explore the newly acquired land from the Louisiana Purchase. Their goal was to find a water route to the Pacific Ocean and learn more about the land, plants, and animals. In 1804, they set out with a group called the Corps of Discovery. Along the way, they met Native American tribes and gathered valuable information about the geography and wildlife. Their expedition lasted over two years and helped expand the United States' knowledge of the western territories.
