The Gold Rush was a time in the mid-1800s when many people went to California to find gold. It all started in 1848 when gold was discovered at Sutter's Mill. News spread quickly, and soon thousands of people, called '49ers,' traveled across the country hoping to strike it rich. They used tools like pans and picks to search for gold in rivers and streams. Some people found gold and became wealthy, while many others returned home empty-handed. The Gold Rush changed California, leading to more towns and roads, and it played a big part in the westward expansion of the United States.
