Our school had a talent show. I wanted to be in it. But I was nervous. I had never performed in front of people. I decided to play my recorder. I practiced every day. I played the same song until I knew it by heart. The night of the show came. I waited backstage. My hands were shaking. Then it was my turn. I walked to the middle of the stage. I took a deep breath. I played my song. I did not make a single mistake. When I finished everyone clapped. I had done it. I had discovered that I could do something scary. Perhaps next year I would try something new. Maybe I would sing. The adventure of performing was over. But I felt proud. I had learned that practice and courage can take you far. I would never forget that night.
