Matter is anything that takes up space and has weight. It comes in three main states: solids, liquids, and gases. Solids, like ice, have a fixed shape because their particles are tightly packed together. Liquids, like water, can flow and take the shape of their container since their particles are close but can move around. Gases, like air, fill up any space because their particles are far apart and move freely.
