Matter is anything that takes up space and has weight. There are three main states of matter: solids, liquids, and gases. Solids, like ice or a rock, hold their shape. Liquids, like water or juice, flow and take the shape of their container. Gases, like air, fill up the space around them. For example, when ice melts, it turns into water, showing how matter can change from one state to another.
