Being Kind with Technology

Just like at school, we use kind words when we go online. The person on the other side has feelings even if you cannot see them.

We treat our devices with care — not dropping them, keeping them clean, and charging them properly. Taking care of things shows responsibility.

Too much screen time is not good for you. Balance technology with outdoor play, reading, talking with family, and sleep.

Before you share something online, check if it is true. AI can help fact-check, but false information hurts people and communities.

If you see someone being treated badly online, stand up for them. You can report the behavior and support the person being hurt.

Running AI uses a lot of electricity. Being kind to the planet means using AI wisely and not wasting resources.

Before you share something online, think: would this hurt someone? Is it true? Would I want this shared about me?

If you make a mistake online — like saying something hurtful — say sorry. Everyone makes mistakes, but saying sorry shows you care.

If you know how to use technology well, help others learn! Teaching someone to use a computer or app is a kind thing to do.

Before using AI to create something with someone's name or picture, ask their permission. Using someone's likeness without asking is not kind.

Take breaks from screens. If something online makes you upset, step away. Being kind to yourself is just as important as being kind to others.

AI should treat everyone fairly. If AI is trained on examples that leave out some people, it might not work well for them. Fairness matters.

Use technology kindly: respect others, be honest, think before sharing, include everyone, and take care of yourself. People matter more than devices.

Words typed online can hurt just like words said out loud. Think before you type and ask yourself: is this kind? Is this true? Is it necessary?

If someone is mean to you online, do not be mean back. Walk away, tell a grown-up, and do not let it ruin your day.

If you use someone else's ideas or work, give them credit. Saying 'I found this on...' or 'My friend made this' is the right thing to do.

People are different and that is wonderful. AI should be built to respect everyone. We can use technology to celebrate what makes each person special.

Do not pretend that AI's work is your own. If AI helped you write something, be honest about it. Honesty builds trust.

Some people have disabilities that make technology harder to use. Kind technology is designed for everyone — with captions, voice control, and more.

Empathy means understanding how others feel. Online, we cannot see faces, so we need to try extra hard to be understanding and kind.
